The Client:
Deerness Distillery Limited an Orkney based distillery built on expertise and knowhow, with a portfolio of award-winning premium spirits: Seaglass Gin, Scuttled Gin, Vara Gin, Into the Wild Vodka and Orcadian Moon, Orkney Coffee Liqueur
Aims & Objectives:
Initially we were asked to evolve the Deerness Distillery visual brand identity, making it punchier and more graphically balanced, without changing it too much, to ensure recognition, presenting a bolder and prouder icon.
We were then asked to redevelop the distillery’s range of gin packaging and label design.
There were several pain points associated with the current packaging which the owners felt needed to be addressed, they were however keen not to lose the distinctiveness of the original much loved designs.

Deerness Distillery, known for its craft spirits, wanted to elevate their branding and packaging to appeal to a wider, more commercial audience while maintaining their artisanal roots. Redefining Gin Packaging Design
Through a meticulous design process, we strengthened and evolved the original packaging by:
- Refining Illustrative Textures: Introducing cleaner, more elegant dynamics to enhance the premium feel.
- Enhancing Colours: Adding opulent tones to create visual impact while staying true to the product themes.
- Suite Cohesion: Crafting a collection of designs that look stunning both individually and as a cohesive range.
Elevating Print and Finishing Details
To add a luxurious touch, we incorporated carefully chosen print finishes, including:
- Foils and Clear Varnishes: Differentiating the visual hierarchy while adding depth and texture.
- Tamper-Resistant Aluminium Strap: A branded, embossed strap with an antique finish, perfectly aligned with the label’s textured aesthetics to ensure seamless brand synergy.
A Timeless Design Legacy
Our work gave Deerness Distillery’s packaging a distinctive, elegant look that resonated with customers and made their products stand out in the competitive spirits market. While the distillery has since taken its labels in-house, we’re proud to have set the original design standard that helped elevate their brand.
