TAKE YOUR TIME AND PLAN YOUR PACKAGING RIGHT – DON’T RUSH IT!

If I said to you, what is the single most overlooked consideration when project planning your packaging, what would you say?

There’s quite a few, but the single most overlooked is… time!

Project planning your packaging should never be a ‘bish bash bosh’ procedure.

It requires:

  • Time
  • Planning and
  • Aligning to your brand and the specific product personality.

There are of course ways to speed the creative process up, like erm, burning the midnight oil perhaps, but some things simply can’t be rushed and that is, more often than not, the production requirements.

Whether you want an unusual shaped carton that visually jumps off the shelf into a customer’s basket or something that already exists taken to another level, these things take more working out than just pressing ‘Command P’ for ‘Packaging’.

Some packaging projects turn around very quickly, but in the case of say glass or bottling design and production for example, this process can take anything from six months to a year to finalise every last production detail, if you want to avoid any costly mistakes that is.

Take a step back, think and plan.

Give yourselves and the team around you time and plan the project properly. Be realistic.

It will be a far less stressful, more enjoyable and a more rewarding experience for everyone concerned.
